World premiere of dramatic Laurence Rosenthal soundtrack for Karel Reisz filming of famous Robert Stone book "Dog Soldiers", starring Nick Nolte, Tuesday Weld. Rosenthal draws inspiration from harrowing drug-smuggling tale, writes charged, graphic score for orchestra with edged, angular main theme for brass, aggressive harmonic vocabulary throughout. Brief respite comes with touching melody "I Ching". Film uses songs, very sparse scoring but original MGM masters reveal several cues previously unheard! 24-track elements were long-since discarded but MGM retained crisp, clean mono mixes of complete sessions for mono film production. Amongst composer's most dramatic works, also remains one of his own personal favorites! Laurence Rosenthal conducts. Intrada Special Collection release limited to 1200 copies!
