Writing the original soundtrack of “The Photographer of Mauthausen” has been an
immensely intense inner journey.
I decided to structure and develop my score through an string orchestra, with piano
and harp, seasoned by woodwind instruments. The cello is the absolute protagonist
along with other solo instruments such as the violin or the English horn. I didn’t write
for a large symphony orchestra until the end of the film, when we needed music that
was bigger and less intimate, but equally emotional.
I have to say that it has been an extraordinary pleasure to work with Mar Targarona.
From the first moment there was a wonderful connection and understanding. When
your director has such clear ideas from the start, everything flows effortly. From the
moment we started working and she asked me to describe the scenes that, in my opinion,
should have music, I knew that everything was going to happen satisfactorily.
This film is a song to life, a necessary film. A story that must be known, precisely to
avoid its repetition.
